Wil Young is Montclair resident and 32-year veteran of Montclair Police Department. He currently serves as Deputy Chief for the Montclair Police Department and has experience in patrol operations, investigations, alcoholic beverage control, narcotics, juvenile aid and special duty assignments working with outside agencies in a variety of capacities.  For 20 years DC Young served on Montclair’s ESU team and is also a certified Firearm Instructor.   Deputy Chief Young is a dedicated, highly decorated Law Enforcement Professional who puts Community before all.  He has been honored by and has received numerous accolades for Community Service and Community Policing. DC Young was educated at the Community College of the Air Force and Fairleigh Dickenson University.
 
DC Young is married and a father of five children. He also celebrates 6 Grandchildren. Wil is very active in the Montclair community.  DC Young has served on the Executive Board of the Montclair Branch of the NAACP and Chaired the Criminal Justice Committee.  He has also served on Montclair’s Parks and Recreation Cultural Affairs Committee.  Wil’s passion lies in the Montclair Cobras Junior Football and Cheerleading Program.  Wil is the President and Director of the Cobras which is one of Montclair’s longest running youth programs.  Wil coached in the program for more than 15 years before moving on to Director.  The Cobras have mentored and coached as many as 150 boys and girls from 7 years old to 14 years old annually.  In 2015 and 2017 Wil led the Cobras to a Northeast Regional Championship and a National Championship in Kissimmee, Fl. where they placed 4th in the nation.  In 2025 the Cobras 13U again won the Big Tri-State AYF Conference, League Championship, State Championship, Big East Regional Championship and again represented the Big Tri-State in the Nationals in Naples Florida where they took 4th place in the Nation.  Being leaders in the NFL’s play 60 movement, the Cobras varsity team proudly represented Montclair at the Closing Bell Ceremony at the NASDAC in NYC on Jan 8, 2016. 
 
Wil enjoys hanging out with his best friend Wendy (wife of 33 years), golfing, photography, motorcycles, going to the gym, the Montclair Cobras, and most of all, cooking out with family and friends at the fire pit.
